Default New-be help around Memphis

I have been through Memphis for years in just my truck, and was happy i didn't have the 5th wheel with me. Anyone know a preferred way to go from west to east on RT40 with a 36 ft 5th wheel trailer behind me. I have been to Truckmiles.com and Google. Both show staying on RT40, taking the northern side. I think the south route ie...40-55-240-40 gives better options for fuel if traffic is crazy slow. Any ideas? Also, is there an RVNet active through there?

If you are going on east on I-40 then the North loop would be the shortest. I think most of the truck traffic goes around the South because that is where the cities industries are mostly located. I believe I would go the north loop. Check on traffic congestion on the either bridge, that seems to be where the most problems are. It's been a while since I've been around Memphis, I know the last time I was on the South loop there was a lot of highway construction, I would think that would be gone by now. Not, just checked. You might listen to 600AM radio, station WREC talk radio when you get closer to Memphis and decide which bridge you want to cross the Mississippi River on. I live on the West side of Atlanta and Memphis is no where close to the traffic we have here.
